 By 1866, Citizens in the town of San Andreas decided it should become the county seat for Calaveras County and the California Supreme Court agreed.

 The historic district is off of the highway, so you may not even see it from your car window as you drive by San Andreas on CA-49. It's east of the highway and you will need to exit at "Main" or "Court" to get a good look at San Andreas proper.
