in this county has a potential for excellent gold production. Below is
a summary of some of the better known places to intensify your search.
The areas around Grass Valley and Nevada City
have great deposits and have produced very well continually. The entire
area is riddled with mine shafts and tunnels from the attempts to draw
from the extremely rich lode deposits here. The entire area is surrounded
by bench placer deposits and it is widely believed that there are many
tertiary gravel deposits that remain to this day untouched.
Due to the many steep inclines and amount of annual rainfall, this
area replenishes it's gold deposits quickly. Even if you felt that you
have completely worn out an area here, It may be in your best interest
to give it a second look after the next spring run off.
The area of Grass Valley and Nevada City has had total estimated
production of 2,000,000+ ounces of placer gold and 11,000,000 ounces of
lode gold. Total production for Nevada County is in excess of 18,000,000
ounces of gold!
