This page offers information on gold producing areas in Amador County.

Amador produced in excess of 14,000,000
ounces of gold. almost half of this production came from placer mining
in the streams, creeks and rivers flowing through it, making it one of
the most popular Counties for the serious modern gold prospector.
Prosecting the creeks and streams north of the towns
of Plymouth and Fiddletown are reportedly producing very well recently,
as many sizable nuggets have been pulled from the Big Indian Creek.
Dry Creek continues to produce gold respectably well. Although
it is less accessible and often tough to get to. It can be well worth
the trek considering the specimens the diligent panner or prospector can
pull.
There exists some aged gravels in the Forest Home area North of
Ione (well west of Plymouth) that are supposed to be producing good color.
Not really sizable gold nuggets have been reported to us, but consistently
and some nice pea sized gold "clinkers".
Prospecting the Consumnes River and tributaries, particularly in
the area of the town of Plymouth have been successful consistently over
the years.
East of Jackson, Highway 88 borders the Jackson Creek. Panning
the creek here has been producing well over the last ten years near Pine
Grove and Highway104.
Gold finds are reported on all three forks of the Mokelumne River
which have traditionally shown fairly good placer gold concentrations.
The Mokelumne River was hydraulic mined and much of the placer gold removed,
however there has been respectable results recently by area prospectors
using traditional panning methods.
