Haunted Louisiana: The Myrtles Plantation

Built in 1796 on an ancient Indian burial ground, the Myrtles Plantation was destined to be a really spooky "Haunted House". Since its construction there has been 10 murders and at least one suicide in the Myrtles Plantation history. At just a half an hours drive north of Baton Rouge, the Myrtles Plantation gets a continual stream of visitors as well as overnight guests who shiver in the dark under the bed in one of the six creepy rooms or in one of the four "garden rooms" in back of the main house. By day the rooms are lovingly furnished and offer the weary traveler a charming retreat. By night you may find a chill from something other than the night air. Visitors to Myrtles Plantation can tour the home or stay the night.

The caretaker’s cottage is said to be one of the most haunted places at Myrtles plantation. Although many have attempted to brave an overnight stay there, only a few have made it to morning without getting “spooked” half out of their wits.

There is a famous mirror at the Plantation that appear in many visitors photographs of the plantation. Many of these photographs show the mirror with what appears to be some ghostly figure peering back at the photographer.
