Haunted California: Napa River Inn

Formerly the Hatt Mill Building, which served as a warehouse and feed store is now the site of the a luxury hotel named the Napa River Inn.

Captain Albert Hatt married Alma (Hogan) and together they had six children. Captain Hatt purchased the Napa River land and began construction in 1884. The original building was used as a bonded warehouse and included a roller-skating rink in the upper level that was constructed of White Rock maple. Three years later, the silo section was built for storage and an additional building housed machinery for crushing and cleaning grains. The river was a corridor of transport that accommodated much of the trade in throughout the valley. Industrial plants lined the shores of the Napa River. Captain Hatt's newly constructed warehouse was in the midst of this blooming commerce and transportation area.

Among Captain Albert's children was Albert Jr. who At age 46, found himself overburdened with the responsibilities of caring for his own five children upon the death of his wife.

On April Fools Day in 1912, Albert Jr. Hung himself from a overhead beam in the warehouse. Much of his despair owing to a current law suit and his own failing health in addition to the loss of his dear wife.

Initally the reported encounters describe a woman in a white dress who appears to be searching for something. Claims persist of items being moved, doors opening and closing on their own, sounds of footsteps, and apparitions the woman in the white dress. Additionally the scent of hay or grain has accommpanied the apparition of a man who is blieved to be Robert Keig, mill owner after Albert Jr's death (1912 - 1974). The center of the haunting appears to be just above the restaurant "Sweetie Pies" in the hallway as well as the rooms 207 and 208 which are in the location of what was originally the skating rink.
