| Grass Valley Travel Downtown Grass Valley has a variety of store fronts from the gold rush era. Unfortunately most of them have been restored to some thing other than the styles that were popular at the time. Never the less, the store fronts are interesting and worthy of a look-see. Empire

up the hill on Empire St. This mine was one of the greatest producers
of gold in North America and continued in operation for more than 100

Star Mining Museum is
closed in the winter, so you may want to call ahead. On Allison Ranch
Rd. You will find a fine display of mining equipment as well as the largest
Pelton Wheel in the world. Rough and Ready is a bit of a detour (about 15 miles total out and back), but the trip just wouldn't be complete without a visit to the old rough and tumble town of Rough and Ready. go west on the Rough and Ready Highway from Grass Valley. 3rd
