The Craycroft Building on HI49 was built in 1852, This rustic old building should stir your imagination. The Downieville Museum is about one mile north of the town of Sierra City (Wed. - Sun. 10-5), and is open from Memorial Day weekend through first weekend in Oct. Cost is Free. The building this museum is housed in dates to 1852. It was originally a Chinese store/gambling house. Stop by and enjoy the relics and the stamp mill model crafted by the local high school students. (916)289-3507 Lion's Memorial Park in downtown Downieville is a charming little riverside park with a nice collection of old mining equipment. Public panning is permitted. The Sierra County Courthouse in Downieville houses an impressive gold exhibit. note the gallows next to the court house as you enter. It is the last one remaining in California that was actually in use at one time. |
