Coulterville The town
Although
no more than a handful of its original buildings are still standing, Coulterville
does have its I.O.O.F hall (rebuilt in 1899), the Hotel Jeffery, the jail,
Whistling Billy, and the hangmans tree (to name a few). check with the
Visitor Center on Main St. for more information.

Old
China Town
At one time
this "China Town" thrived with more than 1300 residents. Today
very little remains, however you get a good feel for what it must have
been like from the Sun Sun Wo store and next to that was Candy's place
(was a local bordello). You'll want to head north on J20 about the equivalent
of three blocks.
Second
Garrott, Groveland, and Big Oak Flat
Just past
old China Town in Coulterville, follow J20 (northeast) about 10 miles
to CA 120. Go west about 3 miles to Second Garrott. This is the truest
form of a ghosted town you can expect to find. Only one building remains
and a hangmans tree, which is said to have served more than 60 hangings.
Continue west to hit Groveland (originally called Garrott) and then Big
Oak Flat.
