Coloma California

      What can we say... this is where the California Gold Rush started in January of 1848 when James Marshall found several gold nuggets at the foot of the tailrace at a saw mill in Coloma CA.

 James Marshall was hired by Capt. John Sutter to construct the mill at the site of what is now the town of Coloma California.

 By that very summer, some 2000 miners were working along that stretch of the American River near Coloma California. It was said that at the time you would not find space enough between the elbows of any two miners to dip your pan in the waters.

  The town of Coloma was named for the "Culloomas", a small tribe of California Native American Indians that lived here.
