Hidden by a curve
in the road and nestled above the Sunset Strip, the Chateau Marmont
would easily be overlooked if not for the hotel's sign. Once identified
however, it certainly appears to be the "Castle Over Hollywood".
The Chateau Marmont has been known
for its popularity among it's many celebrity guests since the
1920's. It has been frequented by Hollywood, Rock 'N Roll celebrities
and who's who of the rich and famous with names like John Belushi,
Greta Garbo, Howard Hughes, Jim Morrison, Errol Flynn, Bob Dylan,
Clark Gable, Paul Newman, Marilyn Monroe, Boris Karloff, Carole
Lombard, Mick Jagger etc.. etc.. etc.. there are in fact many
more.
Today the Chateau Marmont is gaining
equal notoriety for it's celebrity ghosts.
With such a prominent past as a Hollywood elite retreat, it's
easy to see how manifestations of celebrity spirits would find
their way into our web pages even if it was due to an over active
imagination. Enough reports exist however, to warrant open-mindedness.
Claims are of unexplained sounds,
physical "touching" when noone is present, cold spots
and a general spookiness.
Tidbits:
John Belushi overdosed in 1982
at the Chateau Marmont in bungalow #2.
Jim Morrison (while highly intoxicated) fell from his cottage
roof while trying to swing from a drain pipe through his window.
He dangled near to death although he did recover from the incident.
A guest to the hotel reported that
someone joined her in bed, although no "physical" body
ever entered the room.
