| The
centerpiece of the park is the 129-foot Burney Falls, which may
be the most beautiful falls in the state. Originating from springs,
and plumetting to create a lush, mist-filled basin. The park has
six miles of hiking trails through evergreen forest.
This volcanic region is surrounded
by mountain peaks and created over a million years ago. The layered,
porous basalt retains rainwater and snow melt, which forms a large
underground reservoir.
Within the park, the water emerges
as springs at and above Burney Falls, where it flows at 100 million
gallons every day. Following the flow to it's destination at Lake
Britton can present the rare opportunity to spot nests of Bald
Eagles along the lake's shore line.
