Donner Memorial State Park is located on Donner Lake in the Sierra-Nevada mountain range. The park contains the Emigrant Trail Museum, with exhibits recounting the tragic story of the ill-fated Donner Party trapped in the are during the severe winter of 1846-47. The museum also features displays on the region's history and natural environment. Donner Memorial State Park's 3 acres feature a swimming area, picnic sites, and cross-country skiing trails in winter.

This park is above 6,200-ft elevation. Campsite availability is subject to unpredictable and adverse weather conditions including snow closures, which may result in cancelled reservations. Campers are strongly advised to bring appropriate clothing and camping gear for cold weather conditions.
