 Golden Gate Bridge:

 The Golden Gate bridge is a suspension type bridge spanning the ocean between San Francisco and Marin County to the north. The point of the bay at which the bridge was constructed is an ancient river mouth that was named "Golden Gate".

Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge was completed in 1937 and was declared an engineering marvel at the time as it was the longest suspension bridge ever constructed. It held this title for 44 years until the Humber Bridge of Humberside England was completed in 1981.

The Golden Gate Bridge has a span of suspension that is 4200 feet long. Two cables suspend the bridge from two towers that rise 746 feet high. Midway across the bridge, motorists are more than 250 feet above the ocean.
