Lake Tahoe History |

South Lake Tahoe California - Nevada |
|
Lake Tahoe:The basin was originally created by the rise and fall of geologic faults, with Tahoe being a result of one such fall. Lava flow sealed the basin and limited the flow of the Truckee River through it. This resulted in a great lake much larger than exists today. Erosion from has produced new flow through the basin and the current lake level reflects this change.
At its deepest point, Lake Tahoe is over 1500 feet deep and is said by
some to be the home of a "Loch Ness" type of monster. As you
can see from the modest photo of below, the lake and surrounding Sierra
Nevada range provide some of the greatest scenic beauty any state can
boast.
