 The placer mining in the area of Auburn proved so fruitful that the population grew to about 1500 by the end of the year. Future mining operations for the Auburn California area would continue farther up the ravine from the site that the party of Frenchmen and Indians originally prospected. The town of Auburn California now occupies the spot of those later operations.
